Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know anything about lacrosse to play?

No prior experience is required or expected.  We will teach the basic skills necessary to play.

Do I need special equipment?

Yes. The equipment for the boys and girls are different. For the girls, you will need a mouthpiece, goggles, and stick. The girls stick is different from a boys stick, there is a shallower pocket. Girls playing on the 1/2 level can use a boys stick, but this is not encouraged.

The boys need a lacrosse helmet, mouthpiece, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, and a stick. Sticks can be cut shorter in the 1/2 division. At the 5/6 level, defenseman sticks can be 5' in length (caller Tiger poles). At the 7/8 level, defenseman sticks can be 6' in length.

MYL provides every team with goalie equipment. If your son/daughter wants to play goalie full time, reach out and we can help you with what will be needed.

Visit the equipment page for more details.

What does the season consist of?

Season: We start around the third week in March and end in early June with a large jamboree out at Ft. Devin’s.

Practice Schedule: Two times per week, usually in the early evenings (5:45pm to 7:45pm). Practices are generally held Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Nicholson Stadium complex.

Games are held on Sundays and start in April.  No games Memorial Day weekend.  Select games are usually Friday nights.

What is the game schedule?

Games are usually on Sunday between 9:00AM and 5:00 PM.  There may be a few mid-week games as make-ups if we lose games because of weather. Each game lasts about 1-1/2 hours.

There is travel. We play our games against other towns in Massachusetts. The furthest locations we usually go to play in Rockport on Cape Ann, south to Woburn, and west towards Pepperell/Littleton area.
